CHONE FIGGINS, Seattle Mariner
“Go after it. Don't sit back and wait for it to come to you.”

Chone Figgins, new Seattle Mariner, sharing what he learned from his father.

Happy New Year! As we stand on the threshold of a new, possibility-filled 2010, I propose we take today’s Real Zeal message to heart and use it as a powerful launch pad for an unprecedented year.

Each of us has our own set of dreams to fulfill for 2010 – things we want to create, outcomes we wish to accomplish. To succeed at any of it, it is imperative that we “go after it.” If we passively sit back and wait for success to come to us, we’ll still be waiting next December 31.

Chone Figgins is a new Seattle Mariner, coming from the Los Angeles Angels. He excelled with Los Angeles and his success was grounded in commitment and hard work. His new, very lucrative contract with Seattle is a confirmation and a reward for his ‘going after it.’

As the new year is still fresh, I suggest we do these things: Determine what it is that we truly want to accomplish in 2010. Envision our success – SEE ourselves having the best year of our lives. And then? GO AFTER IT!

The story behind the story of Chone (pronounced Shawn) Figgins is his close relationship with family and his deep appreciation and gratitude for their help in realizing his dreams.

The photograph (in the Real Zeal email) may be too small, but if you look closely at Chone’s left arm, you will see a butterfly bandage. He wears it to keep his family close to his heart.

Today’s Real Zeal words reflect some of the lessons that Chone Figgins, a new Seattle Mariner learned from his father growing up in Florida. To read the entire article, click here. .

"He's always taught me to go after it. Don't sit back and wait for it to come to you. Realize it's going to be tough. And when you make a decision, stick by it.”

As Chone tells it, money was scarce when he grew up. His parents worked multiple jobs to support the family. From a very early age, Chone promised his mother he was going to build her a mansion when he made it in the big leagues. And he has.

He and his mother are now embarking on a new project. They are starting the "Get Figgy With It" charity, pledging to build Little League fields in inner-city Tampa and Seattle. Chone’s mother will be its chairman.

Another inspired athlete, inspiring the world.
