"You have to deliver when it counts."
These words were spoken by Jeremy after he won, for the second year in a row, the United States Men’s Figure Skating Championship. To read the entire article.

On January 17, Jeremy Abbott won the United States Figure Skating championship. For Jeremy, the win was special. His performance ensured him the top spot on the Olympic team. More importantly, he delivered – he came through – when it counted.
For Jeremy this was not always the case. Too many times, he’s been unable to silence that unruly voice in his head that keeps telling him he can’t. As a result and at the most inopportune times, Jeremy has failed to deliver.
Delivering when it counts is critical for anyone in competitive sports. But how applicable are today’s words for us in the ‘real world’?
I say … VERY. Consider that each day we are faced with important moments – moments when it counts. Moments when the voices in our head attempt to lead us astray. And while our means and methods of delivering may be entirely different than those of competitive athletes, they are no less important.
Think about this: You’ve just had an argument with your spouse and you know you’ve overreacted. In the moment, when it counts, do you apologize?
Or this scenario: Your daughter has an important soccer game that you’ve promised to attend. But at the last moment, your most promising sales prospect – the one you’ve been trying to reach for days – asks for a meeting. Do you come through for your daughter … when it counts?
Spend the upcoming week looking for moments that count. And then? Be someone who delivers!

I’d like to share why Jeremy is such an inspiring athlete …
He’s stayed true to his dream, He began skating at the age of two, but by four, after he saw Robin Cousins perform … he knew that he’d found his future.
He saw a need in the world and he’s filling it. He knew that it was difficult for young skaters and their families to afford the expensive pursuit of being a figure skater. And so he created a fund to help.
As today’s Real Zeal words attest, he’s making headway in dealing with the negative, debilitating voice in his head that says he can’t. We all have these voices and hats off to anyone successfully dealing with them.
Even in the face of success, he risked his career by working with a new coach, Yuka Sato. It takes guts and has worked out well for Jeremy. Together, they have developed a “STAY IN THE MOMENT” approach to skating that has provided a huge access for Jeremy to deliver when it counts.
Second, here is a link to the Olympic Figure Skating Schedule for the events in which Jeremy will be competing. Don’t miss them and at the very least, record them for later viewing.
Third, I’ve included a link to an awe-inspiring video of Jeremy skating in the short program of this month’s U.S. Open Championship. |
