“We have to have resolve … to go where we want to go.”
In a post game interview following the Celtic’s first win against the Orlando Magic, Ray Allen talked about how the Celtics coach, Doc Rivers had written the words “RESOLVE” on the board at the beginning of the postseason. To that Coach Rivers added: We have to have resolve … to go where we want to go. Read the article.

The Boston Celtics are back!! Although seeded a lowly 4th in the Eastern Conference playoffs, they have, to date, demolished #5 seed Miami (4 games to 1), soundly defeated the best-in-the-division Cleveland Cavaliers and MVP LeBron James (4 games to 2), and are up two games (to none) on the Orlando Magic.
10 and 3 in the playoffs, the Celtics are only two wins away from a chance at an 18th NBA Championship.
The Celtics have exceeded expectations and inspired those who considered them down and out. They’ve shown resolve, which is what today’s message – We have to have resolve … to go where we want to go – is all about.
‘RESOLVE has a number of synonyms – resolution, determination, steadfastness, tenacity, doggedness and firmness.
If I look at where I’m failing to achieve what I’m committed to … I see that resolve may be missing. I may want to achieve, hope I can do it, be really trying. But I’m not resolved, as in, come-hell-or-high-water-resolved.
Take a look at the goals and outcomes you’ve committed to for 2010, especially the ones that are not working out. And ask yourself: Am I truly resolved? Am I determined and tenacious in my commitment? Am I dogged and firm that I will, indeed, achieve this outcome?
Consider that resolve may be THE missing element in getting to where you want to go in 2010!

The Celtics began their season with huge promise, winning 23 of their first 28 games. But that initial promise was later tempered by injuries, too many losses, and a seeming lack of resolve on the part of the players.
According to Coach Rivers, the team never lost their identity, but they did lose their way for awhile.
Now they are back with a vengeance; they’ve won their first two playoff rounds and are now two games away from the Eastern Conference championship and a chance to play for the NBA title.
And Ray Allen? An inspired athlete of the highest magnitude. When Allen was acquired by the Celtics in 2007, an article came out titled: What Everyone Should Know About Ray Allen. In it was the following:
Any player with Ray Allen's stats eventually finds his or her way onto posters. Ray Allen is the type of player that the NBA is proud to have out there as a representative of the league. What everyone should know about Ray Allen is that he is what could be described as the NBA poster player. He has cultural interests in music and art. He is well dressed without being flashy. He is not involved in fights on or off the court.
Ray Allen from the very early days of his playing career seemed to always be using his positions and his notoriety to the benefit of others. He finally determined to concentrate his charitable interests through a foundation. What everyone should know about Ray Allen is that he is a man with a public heart. His organization called the "Ray of Hope" is a reflection of this young man's willingness to convert his own celebrity status and in many instances hard earned cash into assistance for those in need.
Oh, by the way, Ray is a phenomenal basketball player. He may be the best 3 point shooter of all time and is currently the NBA's active leader in three point baskets with 2,444!
Watch Saturday’s night’s game and see the inspiring Ray Allen and his equally inspiring Celtics in action. |
