On June 9, the Chicago Blackhawks, with Jonathan Toews at the helm, defeated the Philadelphia Fliers in overtime to become the 2010 Stanley Cup champions. This celebrated win ended a 49 year draught for the team and the city of Chicago.
The Blackhawks played inspired hockey during the series, just as they did during their season. And as their captain claimed, “We believed all along.”
It is impossible to underestimate the power of “believing.” Believing that you can, that you’ll succeed, that you have what it takes, that this WILL happen is the foundation on which all success is built. Without belief – your actions, your intentions, and your desires – lose their potency.
An important caveat about believing … it must be grounded in certainty and conviction. It cannot simply be an affirmation you repeat over and over again, hoping to make something so. A belief based in hope is like a house built on sand.
How does one establish belief? How does one become a believer? These are questions beyond the scope of today’s message. But they are not beyond the scope of your life. This challenge is a worthy one.
The Chicago Blackhawks believed with every fiber of their being. So must you.
